Returning from her New York debut at Birdland Jazz Club and a European tour, Vancouver born and raised vocalist Jaclyn Guillou has been breaking new ground since she emerged onto the jazz scene at the 2009 Vancouver International Jazz Festival. A young vocalist, composer, lyricist and vocalese writer, Jaclyn has made a debut album that has its own unique sound and a mature yet vulnerable songwriting approach. She has toured worldwide to New York, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Mexico, Toronto, Portland, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Victoria and Saskatoon. Regarded as a rising talent of Canadian vocal jazz, reviewers have also claimed that good things are on the horizon. "BC has produced another rising star, someone perhaps to follow in the footsteps of international jazz artist Diana Krall in the years to come." says Review Vancouver. Jaclyn's interesting and unusual arrangements of standards, covers and original songs from her album To The City have garnered her a tremendous amount of radio play across Canada and the USA. She draws inspiration from Folk singer-songwriters, Brazilian music, the Great American Songbook and current jazz vocalists such as Nancy King, Kurt Elling and Kate McGarry. The Slocan Valley Current mentions her album in a recent concert review as such: "Guillou’s originals have the brassy, mellow glow of jazz standards as if they were plucked straight out of the vault and given a gently modern spin." She has been likened to a young Sheila Jordan and compared to singer-songwriter Sarah MacLachlan for her original and independent approach to music.
