Featuring Alex Samaris-Vocals

 ---

From jazz to orchestral music, saxophonist-composer Angela Morris’ versatility has lead to a vibrant musical career encompassing diverse genres. Based in NYC, the Toronto native has performed in clubs, festivals, and concert halls across Canada, in the United States and in Europe. Incorporating lyrical melodies and tangled grooves evocative of the jazz tradition, her compositions have been performed by large and chamber jazz ensembles. The Angela Morris Quintet, active since 2008, features the dynamic interplay of some of Canada’s finest young jazz musicians. In New York, Angela is involved in several collaborative projects, including Common Wealth, a sextet she co-leads with saxophonist Jasmine Lovell-Smith. With support from the Canada Council for the Arts, Angela is currently studying composition with modern bigband wizard Darcy James Argue at CUNY where she was awarded the Marvin Hamlisch Award for Composition. She has spent several blissful springtimes on scholarship at the Banff Centre workshop in Jazz and Creative Music where she has worked with world-renowned artists including Dave Douglas, Donny McCaslin, Myra Melford, and Mary Halvorson. In the studio, Angela has contributed violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and vocal performances to several indie film scores and rock records. Angela has been a faculty member at National Music Camp of Canada since 2011.
