Bruce was very active on the Toronto scene in the 1970's in Toronto and played and recorded extensively with Rob McConnell's Boss Brass, Lighthouse and Dr Music. He served as musical director of Blood Sweat and Tears and arranged and co-produced their last album 'Nuclear Blues'. On leaving the band in 1980 he worked in Los Angels before moving to South Africa and immersing himself in the budding African and film music scene there.
In 2003 he returned to Toronto and worked as musical director for the Grammy Award winning BS&T songwriter and singer David Clayton-Thomas. In December 2008 he co-produced the album 'Spectrum' with David.
Bruce is one of the world's leading performers on the EVI (Electronic Valve Instrument) - an electronic instrument of amazing warmth and flexibility.

His Hotfoot Orchestra - explores Bruce's penchant for writing adventurous arrangements and challenging virtuoso players to extend themselves. The music consists of different treatments of songs from Jelly Roll Morton through standard songs to happy modern funky stuff - even some South African township music. This is an audience-friendly band.
