Autumn Appreciation

Autumn Appreciation

Thanksgiving is fast approaching for us Canadians, and we at The Rex felt it was the most appropriate time to express our gratitude.

The Rex was recently featured for the second time in an article for BlogTO, going over some of the recent changes, and hopes for the future. We cannot, however, look to the future without first acknowledging our past. We are so thankful to so many different people, we are compelled to at least write some words honoring the many ways we have been blessed this year.

Firstly we would like to take a moment to thank our wonderful staff. You often do not get the appreciation you deserve for your tireless efforts. No matter how busy you get, or how hard a day you’ve had, you are always able to smile and be helpful, while bringing smiles to others. Whether it has been serving drinks, cooking food, cleaning rooms, or simply making sure people are enjoying themselves, our Rex family always finds a way to be of service. Your hospitality and charisma (along with Bob’s) are the main reasons we get to claim our ‘signature Rex charm’, and your dedication is the driving force that keeps us running.

Speaking of which, we could not do a thankfulness post without showing some love for our musicians. We often hear firsthand how difficult it can be to live as a musician in today’s day and age. Yet, through thick and thin, you have all helped us build such a warm, safe and respectful community that not only celebrates live music performance but also elevates Jazz/Blues culture in the city. Thanks to you and your music, our audiences come from all walks of life and have access to a wide variety of sounds and emotions they may not have experienced otherwise. For your many talents, devotion, and hard work, we are eternally grateful.

Last but not least, we are so grateful for our amazing patrons, customers, and friends who have supported us throughout this pandemic, and beyond. From purchasing Rex Merch when we were closed, to filling up our seats when we reopened, and even donations in between: we are truly lucky to have such passionate and loyal supporters. You are all the main reasons behind our success and longevity: why we do what we do, why we strive to be the best at our jobs, and why we have achieved such success. We have come this far and lasted this long because of you, and for that, we applaud you.

So now that we have given credit where credit is due, we are excited to move forward and look towards the future of the Rex. Aside from a link to the BlogTO article, you will find our October Calendar below this post. We have some amazing performances lined up for the spooky month so make sure to get presale tickets as early as you can so you don’t miss out! One final ‘Thanks’ to you, reading this now. Hope to see you at a show sometime soon 🙂

OFFICIAL RELAUNCH

After several months of careful planning, feedback & experimentation, The Rex is proud to present our official relaunch as Canada’s Premier Jazz Venue!

We are always looking for better ways to serve our neighborhood, and have done everything we can to accommodate old & new realities. The following changes have been implemented for the benefit, enjoyment and protection of our customers, musicians & staff:

  • Completely rebuilt stage & sound system,
  • Improved seating arrangement & orientation
  • Tiered cover charges based on seating sections
  • Continued enforcement of strict COVID procedures & protocols
  • Adjusted daily performance times (5:30pm & 8:00pm)

The biggest non-visual change is the switch to making all of our shows ticketed events.

We believe we’ve addressed our clientele’s #1 demand and can now offer PRE-SALE tickets for ALL our featured concert series shows in price-tiered seating format.

This way you can (finally) be certain of your seat/section before you even leave your house! Also, by making our showtimes a bit earlier, we can respect changing audience sensibilities & schedules. We will be presenting the very best in live Canadian Jazz, the Rex’s weekly Juno/Factor Artist Appreciation concert series: every Wednesday-Saturday through March 2022.

Pre-sale tickets will guarantee you seats in a section of your choice for the duration of the show. (Arrival no sooner than 30 min prior to performance time). Pre-sale tickets are limited, but tickets also available for walk-in at the door (first-come, first-served).

All tickets are available for purchase on our merch website THEREXSHOP.CA

If you miss the joys of live music or are looking for a new way to enjoy time with friends, we look forward to you joining us and enjoying the old & improved Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar!

October Update

October 9th 2020

Due to new restrictions and regulations, the Rex will temporarily stop dining services including patio and takeout. We will continue working hard in preparation of our next relaunch and hope to be back in business as soon as possible. Keep in touch with our social media for updates.

Until then, stay safe!

-The Rex Family

Hello Rex Friends & Family

We hope you are all continuing to stay healthy! We’re here to provide you with another update regarding our business and your involvement with it. As concerns continue to escalate over ever-changing policies and Covid regulation updates, we can see everyone starting to fall back into the quarantine blues.

Since the new restrictions have been announced, The Rex has not had to alter any rules for our venue as we have been implementing all the current necessary procedures since we reopened; social distanced seating, wearing of masks, limited capacity, earlier closing and complete contact tracing to name a few. The health and safety of our staff and patrons has been, and will continue to be, the utmost priority.

While it pains us to see certain establishments and music venues closing throughout the city, we are determined to stay open and provide Toronto with the safest and most entertaining live music experience possible. We continue to offer daily music with two shows every night (5:30 and 9pm).

Whether you are looking for live jazz and blues, some great food and drink, or just want a night to escape from the cabin fever, The Rex has you covered. We will put your mind at ease for an evening and continue to adhere to any new regulations put forth by the municipal, provincial and federal governments.

Can’t wait until you drop by! Until then, stay strong and stay safe.

COVID-19 UPDATE

After more than six months of hiatus, The Rex is extremely happy to announce the news of our reopening!
During the past months a lot has changed. Seeing the reopening process of other bars and restaurants downtown has left us torn and conflicted about keeping the place closed for so long. However we’ve been meticulously planning and preparing for our “re-launch” as an exclusive live music venue. While we will continue to be a family establishment with friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere, our focus will be on the very thing we’ve been promoting for so long: The Music.
We will continue to produce great pub fare, drinks, and excellent live music. Gratuity and performance fees will now be automatically included on your bill in order to ensure safe, efficient, and fair service.
We will have two performances per day, every day [Doors open from 4pm-11pm]. To protect both customers and musicians, there are now plexiglass barriers on our stage, and due to our stage renovation – sound quality has improved throughout the venue. We have also taken other safety precautions such as taped guidelines on the floor, contact screening, distanced tables/seats, improved cleaning and sanitation procedures, and the improved billing system.
We are stringently abiding by health guidelines, and then some. We hope you will join The Rex Family once again, ensuring a safe and successful partnership.
