2014 Montreaux Jazz Festival Guitar Competition Winner: Alex Goodman Group

Alex Goodman has worked extensively as a guitarist, composer, pianist and arranger and has established himself as a major rising star on the Canadian Jazz scene.  He has released two albums as a leader, with a third due in 2011.  He has performed on three continents, and has played with many top musicians.  He studied at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University as well as the University of Toronto where he was awarded three merit based scholarships including the first ever Phil Nimmons full tuition award.  Upon graduation, he was the first jazz musician to have ever been awarded the William and Phyllis Waters Award for the “student deemed to have the greatest potential to make an important contribution to the field of music.”
