Keeping a well-rounded and creative approach to bass playing and music is something Alex Lakusta is known for. He has been playing both upright and electric bass for over 10 years with a wide range of experience in many musical styles and genres.
Originally from Alberta, he started studying music at Grant MacEwan University under bassist John Taylor. Upon moving to Toronto, Alex completed a Bachelor Degree in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto under the direction of players such as Dave Young, Jim Vivian, Mike Murley, Andrew Downing and Terry Promane. He has also had the opportunity to perform with world-renowned musicians such as Chase Sanborn, Jim Lewis, David Restivo, Steve Haines, Ralph Alessi, Elio Villafranca, Arturo Stable, Jeff Antoniuk, and many others. Alex is currently residing in the city of Toronto working as a sideman and bandleader. Being an avid arranger, he currently writes for a number of bands and ensembles in Toronto including an electric trio and jazz octet.
Alex is a current member of the Toronto-based indie band The Fallers. The Fallers released their debut record “Get In, Loser” in the fall of 2017.
