Anthony D’Alessandro is a pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader based in Toronto, Ontario. His music has taken him across Canada, the United States and Europe including performances at the Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Jazz Sudbury Festival, the International Glenn Miller Festival in Clarinda, Iowa, the Snowbirds Extravaganza Festival in Lakeland, Florida, Rue-B Jazz Club in New York City, the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, the Home Smith Bar, and Hugh’s Room Live in Toronto.
Anthony has established himself as both a leader and in demand sideman in the Canadian scene, having performed with many notable Canadian musicians including Pat LaBarbara, Steve Wallace, Reg Schwager, Jackie Richardson, Kevin Turcotte, Chase Sanborn, Alex Dean and Ernesto Cervini.
In the summer of 2021 Anthony lived in New York City and performed alongside NYC mainstays Joe Farnsworth and Alexander Claffy, and studied with jazz masters Kenny Washington and Mike LeDonne. In the summer of 2019 Anthony studied composition with David Braid at the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Casalmaggiore, Italy.
Anthony holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto.
The award-winning Anthony D’Alessandro Trio is a swinging piano trio assembled by pianist and bandleader Anthony D’Alessandro, as a means to pay homage to the rich tradition of the jazz piano trio, while simultaneously composing new and exciting music audiences of the modern generation can appreciate and enjoy.
The Anthony D’Alessandro Trio has performed in many of Ontario’s finest venues and concert series including the Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival, the Jazz Sudbury Festival, the Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival, the Old Mill Toronto’s Year ‘Round Jazz Festival, the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, the Home Smith Bar, Heliconian Hall and Lula Lounge.
Recent accolades for the Trio include winning first prize at the 2018 Jazz Sudbury Festival’s Emerging Artist Showcase, receiving the opportunity to open for legendary Canadian musicians Molly Johnson, Robi Botos, and Michael Kaeshammer on the Jazz Sudbury Festival’s main stage. In July 2018, the Toronto Summer Music Festival featured the Anthony D’Alessandro Trio in concert alongside the great jazz trumpeter Chase Sanborn.
This Trio is heavily influenced by the level of polish, precision and hard-swinging approach of the legendary Oscar Peterson Trio. In addition to Peterson, this Trio has a wide variety of influences ranging from Ray Charles and Monty Alexander to Robi Botos and Christian McBride.
