Beverly Taft

Taft has played at festivals and jazz venues all over Ontario and beyond, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sarasota, Florida.  Critics called her debut CD (2003) ‘intelligent’, ‘charming’, ‘delightful’, ‘full of energy’, and ‘100 per cent pure beautiful jazz’.  In addition to public and private performances with her own group, Taft has spent five summers as the vocalist for Mitch Beube’s 9 piece swing band, performing at Bigwin Island, the Muskoka Music Festival and the Gravenhurst Opera House.  Her repertoire is quite broad, encompassing 1920s novelty tunes, blues, swing, latin, and bop.  Showcasing the music of Jobim and his contemporaries in Portuguese is a favourite project of hers.  In the fall of ’09, she reprised and expanded her one-hour show of french standards into an evening cabaret for Alliance Francaise and was described as ‘époustouflante’ (breathtaking) by Le Metropolitain.
