Jon Lindhorst has dedicated his life to jazz and creative music since an early age. While growing up in Toronto he had the opportunity to study with many great Canadian musicians, including Mike Murley, Pat Labarbera and Phil Nimmons. At the age of 18, he relocated to Montreal, where he completed a bachelors in music from McGill University and during which time he formed many important musical bonds with such musicians as Remi Bolduc, Chet Doxas, Christine Jensen, Joel Miller, George Mitchell, and Chris McCann. During his time in Montreal, Jon became involved in a number of amazing creative music projects, including Mobile Preid (with whom he played at the North Sea Jazz Fest in 2004), the Lindhorst/Ruddick Quartet, and the Alex Bellegarde Quartet. After finishing school, Jon formed the bassless trio Turtleboy with guitarist Ryan Butler and drummer Adam Miller, which has become a main focus for him. 2008 was a busy year for Jon, during which he toured and played extensively with Turtleboy (including a performance at the L’Off Festival de Jazz a Montreal), completed a two month residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and recorded and released his first album. He also attended the JIMS workshop in Improvised Music in Salsburg, Austria where he had the opportunity to play and study with such great musicians as Jim Black, Ellery Eskelin, and Wolfgang Muthspiel. In the summer of 2009, Jon returned to the Banff Centre for the Workshop on Creative Music directed by Dave Douglas, during which time he had the opportunity to work and play with such musicians as Joshua Redman, Matt Penman, Tony Malaby, Angelica Sanchez, and Nicole Mitchell. Jon currently divides his time between New York, Montreal, and Toronto, which has allowed him to maintain an active presence in all three scenes, and provided him with the opportunity to study and play with such musicians as Bill McHenry, Antonio Hart, and Joe Lovano. Jon is currently writing music for his own quartet as well as preparing to tour and record a second album with Turtleboy
