Saxophonist Darryl Orr has been sharing his passionfor music with audiences near and far for the lastsixteen years. After discovering his talent in highschool, he pursued studies in classical saxophone andharmony at the University of Western Ontario beforemoving on to the renowned Humber College JazzPerformance program in Toronto, Ontario. During hisfour years at Humber, Darryl had the opportunity tostudy with such luminaries as Pat Labarbera and MikeMurley, and was also fortunate enough to share thestage with jazz legends Phil Woods, Dave Holland,Paquito D’Rivera and Don Thompson. Along with aDegree in Jazz Studies, Darryl graduated from Humberwith Honours and received a President’s Medal foroutstanding leadership and academic excellence. These days, Darryl has established himself as a staplein the young and vibrant Toronto scene. He can beenfound performing regularly at some of the city’s topvenues, including The Rex Hotel, The Pilot Tavern,Dominion on Queen and Gate 403. His current quartet,(consisting of Richard Whiteman on piano, BrandiDisterheft on bass and Sly Juhas on drums), recentlyrecorded their debut album at the CBC’s famous GlennGould Studio. This much anticipated release will takeplace in the Summer/Fall of 2007. Untilthen, Darryl will continue to offer his uniquecontribution to the dynamic Toronto jazzcommunity.
