Berklee Global Jazz Institute Quartet


The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) is a performance program designedto foster creativity and musicianship through various musical disciplines, withpianist and composer Danilo Pérez as its artistic director. The BGJI provides acomprehensive contemporary music environment where students are givenopportunities to explore their creativity to the highest level possible,advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connectmusical creative thinking with the natural environment.

Guitarist David Gilmore has recorded and performed with some of the mosthighly influential and innovative artists in modern music today, includingWayne Shorter, Dave Douglas, Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, Steve Coleman,Don Byron, Cassandra Wilson, Uri Caine, Randy Brecker, and David Sanborn. Hehas appeared on more than 50 recordings and been a major presence on theinternational touring scene. In the spring of 2001 he released his firstrecording as a leader, Ritualism, which received major international criticalappraise and was nominated for Debut CD of the Year in 2001 by the JazzJournalists Association. Gilmore was recently voted into the Rising Starscategory in the Down Beat Critic’s Poll. His playing, which incorporates manynon-Western approaches, has been compared to guitarists with styles as diverseas George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, and Leo Nocentelli.
