Dennis Kwok is a multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, performer, and composer based in Toronto. Originally from Calgary, his interest in jazz and improvised music lead him to Humber College where he completed his Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance and Composition). As a saxophonist and woodwind doubler, he has studied under the likes of Pat Labarbera, Kirk MacDonald, Nina Martini-Dorey, Richard Thomson, Nadina Mackie Jackson and David Sussman among others. His versatility has led him to involvement in contrasting genres from the orchestra to the funk band including collaborations with JUNO award winner, Allison Au, Alex Dean, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Dennis is currently an active performer in the Greater Toronto Area as a bandleader with the Dennis Kwok Jazz Orchestra, the Dennis Kwok Tentet, his quartet and many other projects as a sideman. He is currently a member of Mason Victoria’s SONUSKAPOS Jazz Orchestra, the Rebirth of the Cool project and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. This is his first time leading his own band at The Rex and we are supremely excited to see their performance.

He is also sought-after as an arranger and composer for his experience writing for varying groups from folk-chamber ensemble to jazz orchestra. In 2017, he participated in Spectrum Musics’ New Voices Composers Residency with several other upcoming composers. Since then, several of his arrangments and compositions have been sought after for performance and recording by groups such as the SONUSKAPOS Jazz Orchestra and other Toronto-based recording artists.
