Sometimes, this is what it feels like.
‘Easy Now’, Hagen’s album of elevated original compositions, moves precisely in the moment, at times vast and soaring, at times achingly close and still. He creates an immediacy with lyrics telling just enough to propel us through the music while allowing for both personal connection and interpretation. ‘Easy Now’ covers a vast sonic range and showcases his many influences (Chet Baker, Nina Simone, David Sylvian, Cinematic Orchestra, Patrick Watson).
Deeply emotional, intensely heartfelt, catchy yet substantial — Hagen delivers delivers and album that is personal yet promises to speak to and attract a significant and diverse audience. With a history of having performed with some of Canada’s finest Jazz musicians (Ross Taggart, Miles Black, Don Thompson, Hugh Fraser) in numerous renowned venues (Vancouver: Jazz Fest, Glass Slipper. Toronto: Top o’ the Senator, Montreal Bistro, Reservoir Lounge). Hagen is now expanding into fresh new territory. Some of Toronto’s first-call musicians (Justin Abedin, Davide DiRenzo, Drew Birston, Kevin Fox, Dafydd Hughes, Bryden Baird) were on board to play on the recording and are now an integral part of the live shows.
Hagen has just returned from MIDEM and 2 months living in Paris, promoting his new record in the European marketplace. The live shows supporting the record now begin on home soil.
Extended audio / video material available on Hagen’s website, including live performance footage. Album now digitally available on iTunes worldwide.
