Michael Kawabe Quartet

A constant student of his craft, Mike Kawabe has been playing and continues to play in a variety of musical styles, forms and formats. His background in jazz, classical and various popular music idioms has provided him with a rare perspective and has given Mike a fresh voice to venues from small clubs, studio sessions, orchestra pits to large scale concert halls. His formal drum and percussion studies are with a long list of the best in their field including Dan Bodanis, D’Arcy Gray, Paul DeLong, Don Vickery, Memo Acevedo, Bob MacLaren, and Barry Elmes. A graduate of both the Humber College and UofT Jazz programs, Mike Kawabe has had the pleasure of working with the likes of Pat Labarbera, Brian Dickinson, David Braid and Ron Collier to name just a few. Mike’s recording credits include those under Denise Pelley, John Noubarian and Ben Heywood. More recently, Mike’s sound may be familiar on television where he has recorded a series of incidental jazz combo pieces for CTV. Known for his great musicality and style-flexibility on drums and his extensive versatility in many areas of percussion, Mike Kawabe has a tremendous work ethic and is a highly respected performer in the GTA.
