Montreal’s Kite Trio

Kite is a ground-breaking group from Montreal that redefines what it means to be a jazz trio. Their music is a gripping rendition of the guitar-bass-drums format that draws unabashedly from sources usually overlooked by other jazz groups, including minimalism, modern classical, progressive rock, and country music. In the more than three years they’ve been performing together, Kite has garnered a reputation for a unique compositional style and inspired, highly energetic performances.
Kite is one of the most active bands in Montreal. They play regularly in the city, at venues such as The Upstairs, Casa del Popolo, Bistro in Vivo, and at L’Astral, where they we asked to open for Internationally-renowned pianist Jean-Michel Pilc as finalists in the Jazz en Rafale Festival, which seeks out ‘the best new artists on the Montreal jazz scene’.
Their first CD, recorded after an extensive Canadian Tour in an isolated century-old barn, and funded by a grant from the government of Quebec as well as a highly successful online fundraising campaign, will be released on May 25th, at Casa Del Popolo in Montreal.
Performers: Eric Dew (drums), Paul Van Dyk (upright bass) and Eric Couture-Telmosse (guitar).
