Toronto jazz guitarist Nick Scott offers a modern sound, grounded in the language and tradition of this music. Through the lens of his original compositions, the Nick Scott Group explores the conversational avenues of improvisation and interplay. This sound is encapsulated in the group’s debut album entitled “Vestiges”.
“Toronto guitarist Nick Scott demonstrates a highly melodic approach to improvisation, enhanced by solid technical command on Vestiges, his debut as a leader. On a variety of original pieces such as the swinging “Celestial,” featuring tenor saxophonist Jeff LaRochelle, the spacious ballad “Coalescence” and the Afro-Cuban-inspired “One If,” Scott weaves single note lines and chord clusters gracefully into solo statements with purposeful results. Bassist Mark Godfrey and drummer Derek Gray add energetic support to this impressive outing.” -The Jazz Word
“Nick Scott’s compositions and guitar playing puts him in the company of the great guitarists that went before him, such as John Abercrombie, Jim Hall, John Scofield and even Pat Metheny. He is a local talent that is definitely to look out for and watch in the years to come.” – The Conrad Gayle Review
