P.J. Perry with Kevin Dean

P.J. Perry has become recognized by critics, colleagues and listeners as being one of North America’s premier saxophonists.

P.J. has shared the stage with countless jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel LeGrand, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, and The Boss Brass among others.

In 2007 P.J. was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from theUniversity of Alberta.

In autumn of 1999 Justin Time Records released a Juno nominated recording of P.J. and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra

Winner of a 1993 Juno Award for Best Jazz Recording for his album ‘My Ideal’. P.J. has received Jazz Report magazine’s Critic’s Choice Award for Best Alto Sax for, a record, of seven years from 1993 to 1999.

P.J. has recently been performing his own show ‘The Joy of Sax’ with orchestras across the country. He has also performed with the Edmonton Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Saskatoon Symphony, Kamloops Symphony,  Hamilton Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo, and the Vancouver Island Symphony.

Trumpeter and organist Kevin Dean is an Associate Professor of Music(Jazz Studies) at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He was born inMason City, Iowa in 1954 and received a Bachelor of Music degree in1976 from the University of Iowa. Dean received a Master’s Degree inJazz Pedagogy from the University of Miami (Florida) in 1980, thenjoined the faculty of St. Francis-Xavier University in Nova Scotiawhere he helped develop Canada’s first university accredited jazzstudies program. He accepted his present position at McGill in 1984 anddesigned and developed the first jazz curriculum there. In 1986 Kevinco-founded the Jazz Association of Montreal and served as their firstpresident. Kevin is active as a performer, composer, clinician andadjudicator and was a faculty member of the Jamey Aebersold Summer JazzWorkshops from 1984 to1996. He is featured on over fifteen CD’s,including six with his original music: Minor Indiscretions (McGillRecords 1991), Kevin Dean, Since 1954 (McGill Records 1993), Kevin’sHeaven (Double Time records 1995) Moments Musicaux (Radioland records1996), Over at Ola’s (Hot Club records 1997, recorded during asabbatical year in Norway) and Venous Lake (Gemini records 1998) whichfeatures guitarist Louis Stewart and bassist Neil Swainson and isenhanced with CD-ROM video material from the recording session. Hiscomposition ‘Andre’s Footsteps’ was one of seven jazz pieces chosen tobe part of a four CD set of Canadian music compiled and released by theCanada Council for the Arts celebrating the 50th anniversary of theUnited Nations. Kevin has performed in concert and recorded withnumerous well-known jazz artists including Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson,Joe Henderson and Barry Harris. In recent years Kevin has begun to playand perform on the Hammond organ and has a quartet that features AndreWhite playing drums and saxophonists Mike Murley and John Nugent. Thegroup performed at jazz festivals in Montreal, Sweden, and Finland lastsummer and released their first CD; Kevin Dean Organ Band, Live atUpstairs.
