Roarshaq is a Toronto-based collective dedicated to creating new and original works in jazz and improvised music. As the name suggests the group aims to be a musical inkblot, creating patterns, images and textures which the listener is free to interpret and experience in their own way, projecting their own state of mind through the music.
For several years these four musicians, each consummate professionals in Toronto’s music community, have been getting together to make music they love. They were selected to attend a short-term winter residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in March 2013. Immediately following this period of rehearsal/development, they toured in Ontario/Quebec and recorded a demo EP at McGill Studios in April 2013. Most recently, with the generous support of the Toronto Arts Council, Roarshaq completed a second intensive rehearsal period for 21 days in November/December 2014.
In February, Roarshaq will be recording their debut studio album at Canterbury Music Studio. Leading up to the recording, the group will be performing a series of concerts throughout Ontario/Quebec – including The Rex on Wednesday, February 19th.
