Terry Promane

Terry is a low brass specialist and arranger, active in jazz and commercial music.  He appears with numerous Toronto based groups including the JUNO award winning Rob McConnell Tentet, The Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra, The Hilario Duran Latin Jazz Orchestra, The Mike Murley Septet, and the Dave Young Sextet and Octet.

Highlights include working with Kenny Wheeler, Bill Holman, Maria Schneider, Vince Mendoza, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, and many others.  His extensive work in musical theatre includes, Show Boat, Sunset Boulevard, Crazy for You, Phantom of the Opera, CATS, Ragtime, Chicago, Fosse, The Lion King and The Producers.  Terry can also be heard on numerous television and radio jingles as well as TV themes and feature movies.

As a writer, Terry has considerable experience composing and arranging for many groups including, The Dave McMurdo Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Cartel, The Brigham Phillips Big Band, The Kirk MacDonald Big Band and Dave Young. 

Terry is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Toronto, and a former faculty member at Humber College, Mohawk College and York University. In 1999 and 2000 Terry was honored as the ‘Jazz Trombonist of theYear’ from the Jazz Report magazine.
