With influences ranging from Miles Davis to the Carpenters to J Dilla, The Worst Pop Band Ever is a Toronto based group that combines their love of improvisational jazz with modern pop influences. Surprisingly,  the WPBE has received critical acclaim, been featured on radio and media, reached the top of College Radio Charts and had their music used for film, television and podcasts, (everything from the NFB, CBC to even a Disney Pilot) . In fact, since 2006, the WPBE has been entertaining audiences at festivals and packed clubs throughout North America and Asia: from St. John’s to Seattle; New York to Vancouver; Montreal to Taipei. They have also run educational clinics and master classes for elementary schools all the way up to Universities and Colleges across Canada since their inception.

Despite their name, the band features award winning members that have had the good fortune of playing with a host of great musical artists. Chris Gale (sax), Adrean Farrugia (keys), Dafydd Hughes (keys), LEO37 (turntables, MC), Drew Birston (bass) and Tim Shia (drums) have performed with everyone from Grammy nominated artists like Feist, Ernie Watts, Kevin Clarke, David Buchbinder, Chantal Kreviazuk, Louis Cole and Jane Bunnett to Juno nominated Artists like Blue Rodeo, Sultans of String, the Shuffle Demons, Elizabeth Shepherd, Quique Escamilla, Rich Brown, Milosh and Donne Roberts.

“The Worst Pop Band Ever is the total package – great compositions, unique covers and standup-worthy comedic banter… a highlight of the (TD Toronto Jazz) festival.”Mike Deicont, tojazz.com

“The music’s fresh, may appeal to pop lovers but assuredly to jazzers keen on a kind of driven fluency as genre stylings are examined, discarded and reworked.” Geoff Chapman, Toronto Star

“Indeed, titles can deceive. When it comes to the Worst Pop Band Ever, don’t assume it’s about pop. Don’t even assume it’s about jazz. But know that it’s about some of the most clever, talented and wide-ranging musicians in the nation.” Dennis Slater, FFWD magazine

“Of course Jazz isn’t dead. The core idea of using pop music as source material for creative exploration is still very much alive…It is easier to appreciate (and follow) where these artists take the music when you already understand where they started… Snarky Puppy, Mehliana, The Worst Pop Band Ever… ” Kevin Hurley, Huffington Post
