 In the early ‘60s, @johncoltrane and his band sounded different on stage versus on a studio recording. Live tracks recorded at the Village Gate – a venue in New York – during Coltrane's residency there in 1961 capture the new sounds he was pioneering, but those recordings were never published. But recently, the recordings were unearthed at the Library for the Performing Arts by researchers working together with librarians from the Music and Recorded Sound Division. The new tracks are part of a forthcoming album coming out July 14, called ‘Evenings at the Village Gate: John Coltrane with Eric Dolphy’.

Join us on July 11 for a discussion on the recording and to get an advanced listen of this incredible live album. Event starts at 5:30pm with a discussion from Terry Clarke, @allisonaumusic, @luisdenizmusic, & Pat LaBarbera – hosted by @jazzfm91’s Walter Venafro (@tdot_jazzcat). We will then play the album from beginning to end in an open listening session.
