“I am an acoustic and electric bassist, and composer who grew up here in Toronto. I collaborate and perform with artists across a range of musical styles from traditional jazz, to experimental pop, and sometimes I even make music for dance. I'm lucky to be part of a thriving and passionate community of musicians and artists here in Toronto.
In recent months I've released two new albums - the first is a an album of improvised duets between myself and my long time collaborator James Hill (Project Whatever) called "Sixteen Ways". The second release is an album of music for Solo Double Bass which was recorded at home during the winter lockdown in early 2021, called "Snow Moon." You can find links and learn more about this music in the "Music" section of this website!
Currently I am focused on developing music for a new group I am leading called Moonbliss, which includes a few of the my favourite musicians in the city: Yunjin Claire Lee, Leland Whitty, Chris Pruden, Eric West and Mingjia Chen. I have big dreams for this project including making a full length album in 2022 and performing frequently around Toronto and abroad.
Some other local musicians I work with in an ongoing way include: Tara Kannangara, Jesse Ryan, James Hill, Sam Dickinson, Kira May, Sabine Ndalamba, Matthew Tavares, Liam Mitro, and Sean Clarey, Alex Bird and Steven Taetz.
These days I am obsessed with synthesizers and effects pedals, and my love of playing Black American Music is undying. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the Black Musicians that, in a society full of oppression still gave us so much beauty - music that lit up my imagination, and made me want to play the bass and find expression through sound. “
